Maternity rights are non-negotiable and must be upheld with utmost respect and compliance.
Natasha, a member of the IWUA, was denied the entitlement of paid maternity leave by her employer.
Feeling distressed and unsupported, Natasha reached out to IWUA for assistance.
Natasha’s assigned case manager filed a General Protections claim asserting her rights under the law. This legal avenue exists to protect employees from adverse actions taken by employers, including those related to parental leave entitlements.
Natasha’s case progressed.
Seeking to resolve the dispute without the need for a full legal hearing, a conciliation took place. As a result a settlement was successfully reached.
Our member received a significant sum of $25,000 in total, with $20,000 of that amount classified as general damages, which are typically not taxed.
This case is a victory for IWUA and a testament to the power of advocacy.
Why is the IWUA different? We believe that real change in workforce STARTS with empowering workers, not bureaucrats.
