Our Executive
The IWUA executive structure is different to other competitors. Our elected executive consist of a President, Vice-President and Treasurer, these executive members make all policy decisions for IWUA.
The Secretary is appointed by the executive under the constitution and does not make policy decisions. Instead, the Secretary sees to the day-to-day operations of the organisation on behalf of the executive.
When we say "Run by Workers for Workers" we mean it.

Brenton Sherwell
Treasurer
Brenton brings a decade of dedicated experience in the human services field to his current role as Program Coordinator at Sacred Heart Mission. His journey began by working with youths facing intellectual disabilities, disengagement, and involvement in the youth justice system. This foundation of experience has shaped his passion for supporting vulnerable communities.
Over the years, Brenton transitioned from fostering care case management to homelessness case management, where he provided essential services to those in need. Today, at Sacred Heart Mission, he coordinates programs aimed at creating positive change in our community.
Brenton joined the Red Union due to his commitment to workers' rights and personal freedom of choice. As a previous member of the Australia Services Union, he found over time that he no longer resonated with their values. The Red Union's commitment to advocating for individual choices resonated with Brenton’s values and drove his decision to join our ranks.
In his capacity as Treasurer, Brenton looks forward to exploring how the IWUA can support our members. Drawing from his extensive background in customer service, retail, and human services, he is passionate about working with people from diverse backgrounds and advocating for their rights.
Outside of his professional life, Brenton is an avid sports enthusiast, with a particular love for AFL, NRL, and NFL. These sports have instilled values of teamwork, dedication, and perseverance that he applies to his work in the human services field.
“I firmly believe in the importance of respecting individual choices, fostering diversity of opinions, and upholding freedom. These principles guide my advocacy for workers' rights and my dedication to ensuring that unions, like the Red Union, serve as strong advocates, securing the best possible outcomes for all.”
